When Angie Yarnell’s husband showed up at her mother’s house in Holts Summit, MO to tell her that Angie ran off with another man, the mom, Marianne, was certainly suspicious.
Marianne and Angie were tight, and leaving her husband behind for another dude would’ve certainly come up in a conversation, Marianne maintains. Plus, it was completely out of character.
Then weeks later Marianne received a postcard allegedly from her 28-year-old daughter.
It read: “Mom, we are going to Texas tomorrow to visit Gary’s family. Will write soon as we are settled. Love, Angie.”
Perhaps Angie did leave her husband Michael Yarnell and is off to Texas to start a new life, thought Marianne.
But something about that postcard didn’t sit well with Marianne. The closer she examined it, the more she was convinced it was forgery.
So she enrolled a forensic handwriting expert to review the postcard, comparing it to written samples Marianne had from both her daughter and from Michael.
Not only wasn’t the postcard written by Angie, it was actually from the hand of Michael.
Michael penned the postcard!
And that revelation led to a string of events, including Michael’s confession that he killed Angie… accidentally.
Would police believe him?
