The Cedar Creek Correctional Center, about two hours outside of Seattle, has a unique rehabilitation program for inmates.
It involves dogs. Rescue dogs, to be exact.
The inmates are the trainers, grooming the young canines to serve as certified service animals.
A laudable prison policy, for three reasons:
It keeps the prisoners on upstanding behavior, as this program is rightfully considered a privilege; it teaches inmates personal responsibility that’ll be useful when they’re released, and, lastly, it helps them give back to society by training a service dog that will end up positively impacting a disabled person’s life
